Daffodil Reflection

This is my amazing daffodil art. It look lots of work and patience. I really like how mine turned out. We started our daffodil 3 weeks ago. We made 3 daffodils, a vase and borders. We coloured the 6 pieces of papers and dyed them 3 times. 1 was for our trumpet. 1 was for our petals. 1 was for our vase. Another was for our stem and 2 others were for our border.

For our petals, we had draw a petal shape 18 times and cut it out. We glued the petals to the paper and made a daffodil. Next was to make the trumpet. We got one of the papers and drew a cylinder shape and cut it out. Later, we glued it together and cut the outside of the trumpet.

We made our stem, by cutting half of it then we rolled it tight and glued it. While the glue was on, we had to hold the stems tight for 30 seconds. After I was done with the daffodil flowers, I was given 1 A2 sheet of black paper. I had to draw a border 2 cm wide. I had to do the same with my two background borders. I had rule the border up into 2cm strips.
I cut out the strips and ripped them into pieces to glue them on to make the border.

Overall, making the daffodils were very fun. I really liked how I did something different and unique. I really like the process of the daffodil, and I hope to do another one in the future.

Zoo Recount

On Friday 31st August, we went on a trip to the zoo. The first animal we saw were the otters. They were very small and cute. The otter’s area was very spacious and beautiful. In the Tiger's area, they were doing construction on the place to make it more entertaining for the animals and people. Later, we went into a gate and saw lots of Australian animals like the kangaroos, wallabies and the tasmanian devils. After that, we stopped for a little snack and watched the alligator.  After morning tea, we went into the classroom to find Polar bear and Lion skins. The man (Fraser) told us that the polar bear died because he was growing mould on him due to the temperature in Auckland.

Even though Polar bears are supposed to be living in cold weather, in Auckland it is very very Hot. That's how the mould came, so they decided to put the polar bear down. We got to touch their skin to feel what they felt like. He also showed us a real live kiwi egg in an incubator. After this, we headed to the NZCCM, (New Zealand, Centre for Conservation Medicine). It was a pet lab, where they helped out animals from the zoo and rescued animals too.

In addition, while we were looking around, stopped to eat lunch. While we were eating lunch, we were watching the elephants play around and eating its food. As we were on our way to the african animals, we saw were the lions. The lions were sitting and resting.

Overall, the Zoo trip was pretty cool. My Favorite bit was when we went through the meerkat tunnel. It was pretty short but worth it. I hope next time when I go to the zoo, I could explore more and visit the newly constructed areas around the zoo.

Child Labour

1 out of 5 children in Africa are in child labour. Child labour can be harmful by health, safety and A
ability to have a childhood. 246.4 Million kids perform dangerous child labour for addition with hazardous
conditions. All over the world, more than 24.6 million kids have performed child labour. Million’s of girls in
the world work as domestic services in an unpaid household. Some work in plantation’s and others work
in the livestock herding.

In Arab, 1 out of 32 children become people’s slaves. According to scientists studies they have shown
that, boys have a greater risk of child labour than girls. Out of 152 million, 88 million boys are in child l
abour and 64 million girls perform child labour too. In africa, 62.1 million kids get founded to perform child
labour. Also, 62.1 million in asia and pacific perform child labour. 4.1 percent of Central asia and Europe
are slaves.

Overall, I believe that child labour should not be happening. I think the children all around the should have
a chance to get a education and to get a life of their own.

Life Education Experience By Karla

Room 1 went to the Life Education mobile classroom. We met a lady named Michelle and a giraffe named Harold. On Monday, we learnt about lot’s of things. I remember Michelle saying “ Everyone’s different. There is one you and there is never going to be another you”. That is what amazes me.

For the first lesson, there were words up on the wall. Our task was to pick 3 words that describe yourself. I choose quiet, patient and artistic. Soon after we had to pick a colour. The options were Blue, Red, Purple and Yellow. I chose Red. So all the people who chose the same colour had to go to on side the corner, so we can talk about all our differences.

I remembered watching a video. It was about a girl and making hard choices. She had to make a decision around if she should listen to her friends or listen to her conscience. I remember one bit in the video where these girl were peer pressuring her into going with them to the park. Sadly, it is my last year doing the Life Education lessons and hope I see them soon.

Hybrid Animal Desciption

This hybrid animal has big ears and a long tail. It has a pig’s snout and a naked, hairless body in the shape of a sphinx body. This pink, skinny, wrinkly, body has very bumpy skin and small claws. If you were to touch this animal it would feel like an old person’s.

Anzac Day Argument

On ANZAC Day, shops would be allowed to open until 1pm. If you don't know, ANZAC stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corps. ANZAC Day is a time where we remember those who died in World War One.

Most workers in New Zealand work every single day. In my view, I think the shops should be closed during ANZAC day because of the time and effort those people put in their work. Plus the only holiday they get is Christmas Day, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Throughout Australia and New Zealand people have made up many traditions throughout these past years. In Australia many people get together with their families and do special activities.

On July 28th 1914, was when the first war began. Britain, France, Russia, and the United States of America fought against Germany, Austria, Hungary and many more. During the war, more than 18 million people died and 23 million were injured. The great war lasted four years, three months and 14 days.

This is why I think the shops should be closed during ANZAC Day. I strongly believe that we should close the shops, not only to have a day off but to remember those who fought for our country and to thank them for risking their lives for others. “ War is an organised murder, and nothing else “ Quoted by Harry Patch.

Cadbury chocolate factory - Persuasive Writing

Cadbury chocolate is a well known famous brand. The Cadbury chocolate factory is known for having their rich, sweet and smooth creamy chocolate. It’s a tragedy to say on Thursday March 29th 2017 the Cadbury factory closed due to the issue of money. The reason why the Cadbury factory is closing down is because in Australia the factory is way cheaper.

I strongly believe that the Cadbury chocolate factory should stay in New zealand, not only because it's what we are known for, it’s because of the history that has happened throughout these past years. Another reason I don't want the Cadbury chocolate to go is that they might change the recipe so it won’t taste the same.

In Addition, another con is that the people who worked there lose their jobs. In New Zealand that is a big problem. Did you know that there are more than 900,000 people unemployed. We did not need a much loved chocolate factory to close its doors on the workers.

Lastly, I think it’s really important for the Cadbury factory to be in New Zealand because our chocolate was originally made in New zealand and has had a 150 year history. The Australian's keep stealing our things. In New Zealand, I think we need to make our own things, because there’s always things that get sent from other countries to New Zealand.

Writing - Plastic waste

As you put your rubbish in the rubbish bin it doesn't always end up at the dump. There is an 80 percent chance that your rubbish is either in the ocean, killing the sea animals or polluting our environment. Scientist believe that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the sea.

I want you, yes you to be a litter free person. How? You may ask, well there are many different ways to be a litter free person. One of them is to only eat nude foods such as salads, fruits etc. Nude foods are those that have no plastic wrapping.

I strongly feel that we should use lunch boxes.Using containers makes you more organized and easy to use.You can use containers for salad, noodles, rice and other lunch foods. So you don't need to use food with wrappers. In addition, another way you can make your school litter free is to have separate bins in which rubbish goes in. For example putting image on the rubbish bins, so that even the little kids can be litter free and it will also help them along the way, so they know where the put there rubbish.

Furthermore, I vehemently believe that we should use worm farms. Worms farms make good soil, its good for food scraps and plants.Using compost bins is good for helping worm farms. The worm eat the food scraps and process it, later it becomes soil. When the worms eat the food, they provide nutrients to the soil.

Lastly, if you be a litter free person it will make a difference on the environment. Spread the news, and become a litter free person. If you become a litter free person, we can live in a safe and healthy environment.

Model T Car

For reading, we are reading a book about hybrid cars, fuel powered cars and electric cars.
We had three options. We could either write about the model t car, compare all the types of cars or
make a digital learning object on renewable car and non renewable cars. I picked the Model T Car.

Comparing foods - Occasional & Everyday foods

For health, we are learning about how to compare foods. On Friday March 9th, the senior hub walked to New World to write down Occasional & Everyday foods. We had to compare foods. We looked at how much fat, salt, sugar, energy and dietary fibre that was in healthy and Occasional Foods.

Coding Experience

Woah, I have been here before. It’s the exclusive hotel-The Cordis. Today was when I had reunited with a new coding experience. I have coded before but I never knew how to do it or what to do. Yesterday was the day that I learnt how to code. We got to code on a program called “ Scratch ”. If you don't know what it is, it is a programming application where you can make your own game with code. We went to code our own game called “Ghost busters”. As we were working on our game, there were people going around and asking questions about our game. These people hadn't coded or nor had any experience before. I had a really fun day. The place was so luxurious. In the bathroom there were lights that were as bright as the sunlight. The hand soap smell filled the room with essential oils. They gave us free water. At the end we received certificates. When we were coming back from the exclusive hotel, we went on the bus and sang our hearts out.I was very glad that I went and I would like to go back soon in the future to do more coding.

My time at Mary Mackillop

Mary Mackillop
Mmmm I can smell delicious food. It's coming from outside. "Come on lets eat" I say. "Ok" says Meliana. We are eating. I'm eating an orange, crackers, jam sandwich, apples and a chocolate brownie. One of the sisters gave me a drink of juice. It was refreshing. I'm full.  I should stop eating Ida says.Screenshot 2014-11-13 at 07.59.38.png
